Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    CQU's Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic Services), Professor Alex Radloff, visited CQU Mackay last Friday to consult with staff on the new Management Plan for Learning and Teaching.

    Professor Radloff introduced herself to staff and spoke about the process undertaken so far in drafting goals for the plan.

    Two students from CQU Bundaberg recently presented a live VOD (Video On Demand) broadcast from Under-Water World at Mooloolaba.

    Leetice Evans and Kate McDonnell, as a part of their Entrepreneurial Professional course, managed permissions and protocols to present a streaming video workshop from Under-Water World to students at their practicum school at Mapleton.

    A new interactive multimedia resource for environmental education was officially launched last Thursday (September 7) at the North Keppel Island Environmental Education Centre (NKIEEC).

    Animated animal characters and a virtual panorama are among features of the new state-of-the-art educational CD-Rom produced at Central Queensland University.

    Staff and students are welcome to join refugee community members and workers at a 'family law and culture forum', supported by the Nurturing Migrants project based at CQU Rockhampton.

    The forum, from 11am-1pm on Friday October 6, is being held to discuss queries about family law in a multicultural community.

    The largest CQU graduation ceremony yet held in Sydney took place on August 29 when 560 graduates from 38 countries took part.

    The ceremony, which lasted for 2 hours, was held in the historic Sydney Town Hall.

  • Staff and students still have time to join challenge against Townsville

    CQU Rockhampton staff and students have until close of business on Monday (September 11) to register to join a challenge against Townsville residents in the 10,000 STEPS City of Origin challenge.

    Fourteen of the 36 teams to register so far are based at CQU, but organisers are keen to have 60 teams involved.

  • Anatomy for beginners anyone?

    This Thursday, staff and students of CQU Mackay and members of the general public delved into the world of anatomy to see how the human body really works, at a screening of a live televised dissection in 'Anatomy for Beginners'.

    The series, now available on DVD, features live, public anatomy demonstrations carried out by a famous anatomist and artist Dr Gunther Von Hagens, with the use of live models and real human cadavers.
