Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • Students make a splash on campus

    Dressing up as a bear, a clown, a princess or a zookeeper is not how most people spend a Sunday, but a group of final-year Bachelor of Learning Management students at CQU Gladstone did just that when they organised a family day for the community recently.

    The students organised the 'Make a Splash' expo as part of their assessment for the BLM's Advocacy, Leadership and Change course.

    CQU Brisbane International Campus (BIC) had the privilege of hosting a visit by 3 professors and 9 students from Endicott College (Massachusetts, USA) on June 1.

    Professors Rich Nastasi, Aaron Viner and Sergio Inestrosa brought the group of students to BIC as part of an educational tour designed to enhance the students' degree studies.

  • CQU addresses financial realities

    Rockhampton-based Central Queensland University will embark on a 2-year $40-million university-wide cost-saving and aggressive marketing plan to adjust to the changing patterns of international and domestic student enrolments, it was announced yesterday (June 13) by the Vice Chancellor to about 50 of the University's most senior managers.

    "We need to reassess and reconfigure for what will emerge down the road," explained Vice Chancellor and President John Rickard, referring to what he believes is a long-term challenge faced by "regional" universities operating in robust, natural-resources-based economies, such as Queensland.

  • Relay for Life at CQU raises over $230,000

    Rockhampton's Relay for Life 2007 held at CQU Rockhampton raised more than $230,000.

    These funds will help Cancer Council Australia support our local cancer patients, provide local preventative education campaigns and enable research into treatments.

  • Woongarra Coast water sampling extended

    Woongarra Coast Monitoring & Education Project (WCMEP) is a community group interested in marine conservation and coastal resource management in the Bundaberg region.

    Since 2001, the WCMEP group has collaborated with CQU Bundaberg and CQU Centre for Environmental Management on monitoring coastal water quality, marine organisms and fringing coral reef, including coral bleaching, and has promoted awareness of stormwater quality.
