Khousboo Googles before moving to Rockhampton

Mauritian Khousboo Ajodha heard about CQUniversity through an education agent and spent a bit of time Googling to find out about Rockhampton before applying for a Vice-Chancellor's scholarship to help cover her costs across the 3 years it will take to complete her Nursing degree...

Mauritius is a small island nation in the Indian Ocean - about 800km east of Madagascar - so it was a leap of faith to come to the Pacific coast of Queensland.

Khousboo will consider postgraduate study when she completes her undergraduate Nursing degree, but has an open mind if she would like to stay longer in Australia or return to her homeland.

The new arrival is from Queen Victoria, a small rural village of 3000 people in the Flacq district, which has a Roman Catholic Association school, some supermarkets and a community welfare centre.

Community involvement was one of Khousboo's extracurricular activities.

"During our Moral Classes at Loreto College St Pierre, we used to raise funds to buy school materials for the APEIM, which is a non-government organisation responsible  for the care and support of childen and even adults with disabilities and some mental handicaps. We used to go there once a year to do sketches and much more just to entertain these children."

Now in Rockhampton, Khousboo is settling in fast thanks to a network of friends and access to support services.

"For the time being, I am staying off-campus with friends only a 10-minute walk to the University. I come to the University anytime I want and indeed I love the place there. It's a good environment and students feel secure," Khousboo said,

"The Vice-Chancellor's Scholarship provides me a 20% reduction in tuition fees for the duration of my course which is really very helpful.

"The student support team at CQUniversity are very nice and they help you to the extent they can. CQUni has just been beyond my expectation."
