Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • Coffee cups prevalent in recycling audit

    CQUniversity is examining a recycling proposal from the CQ Local Government Association and the Product Stewardship Forum, which could help to provide a coordinated strategy.

    As part of the proposal assessment, Health, Safety and Environmental Officer Brendan Taylor and Division of Facilities Management Grounds Project Officer Leigh Portch have been reviewing the results of a waste audit recently conducted in public areas of Rockhampton Campus.

  • Research centres put on showcase in Gladstone

    CQUniversity's Centre for Environmental Management, Process Engineering and Light Metals Centre and Institute for Resource Industries and Sustainability jointly held a well-attended showcase evening this week.

    The event was hosted by the relevant directors - Professor John Rolfe (CEM), Professor Richard Clegg (PELM) and Dr Anna Thomas (IRIS) - and attracted community and industry representatives.

    Cancer Council Queensland has set the weekend of May 21-22 for next year's Relay for Life fundraiser and has encouraged people to get involved.

    Teams can start recruiting and fundraising for the event and individuals can consider roles on the Relay committee.

  • Student Sarah really clicks with photo judges

    Congratulations to Yeppoon student Sarah Stibbards who has turned two years of hobby photography into a Top 10 finalist status in the Canon Photo 5 competition run throughout Australia and New Zealand.

    The Bachelor of Learning Management (Early Childhood) student entered the competition which requires photography enthusiasts to register to receive a box containing each of the five briefs that are to be incorporated in the photos (there are a limited amount of boxes).

    Malinda is now in the running for one of 10 NEiTA national awards.

    The 'micro-credit' system has been rolled out worldwide by Grameen Bank.
