Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    The theatre is looking for 24 people who have never set foot in the Pilbeam Theatre before to be part of a statewide survey to determine the habits of non- theatergoers.

    'Idiom 23' magazine is organising a Writers Workshop "A Sense of Place" to be held at North Keppel Island Environmental Education Centre from Friday April 29 - Sunday May 1 (2005).

    Darryl Stewart has been appointed Campus Director at CQU Melbourne International Campus, replacing Barbara Abou-Lehaf who has moved to the Sydney International Campus.

    Mr Stewart initially joined Campus Group Holdings as General Manager of School Operations in 2001.

    Community and university leaders will attend next week’s official opening of the new CQU Emerald Campus, from 6pm on Wednesday, March 2.

    The campus has moved from its shared facility at the Central Highlands TAFE and is now located at the Emerald Agricultural College on the Capricorn Highway.

    ‘Celebrity Overhaul’ may be bad for the health of TV viewers, according an expert who has helped introduce the 10,000 Steps program to Australia.

    Dr Kerry Mummery, a Professor of Physical Activity and Health Promotion from Central Queensland University, said he was concerned that the TV program was advocating a severe approach to dietary restriction and extreme exercise.

    Queensland is ready to claim leadership in the export of mine safety training, thanks to a new cluster of private and public organisations.

    The new cluster, Queensland Safety Services, is made up of seven organisations based in Rockhampton, Emerald and Mackay, as well as Brisbane.
