Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • Graduate releases debut country album

    CQU marketing graduate and MBA student Kimber Sparks, from CQU Gold Coast, has released her debut album entitled It's Her Turn - a country music album of original songs which features the single Nowhere to Go.

    The album follows Kimber's previous EP Go Get EM Girl, which produced 3 chart singles and video clips.

  • Kendall's life 'consumed by music'

    Bachelor of Music student Kendall Layt says her life is 'consumed by music' and she is looking forward to a busy year at CQU's Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music in Mackay.

    The first-year double bass and bass guitar specialist has already joined campus jazz and pop combos and she also has recent experience in a rock group.

  • Book launch recognises scholarly projects

    A launch was held this week for Research into 21st Century Communities, a book made up of current scholarly work by CQU academics and students.

    The new publication was edited by Professor Bruce Knight and Dr Bernadette Walker Gibbs along with former staff member Dr Jeannette Delamoir.

  • Graduate needs surgery but prolongs rugby career to tour USA

    Civil Engineering graduate and keen sportsman Simon Steinhofer has fully recovered since undergoing surgery on a separated AC shoulder injury in late 2006 and is now looking forward to representing Queensland's Outback Barbarians on their tour of Amercia's west coast in April this year.

    He is among several CQU graduates on the team, which is supported by the University via the Office of Development and Graduate Relations.

    CQU plans to help Australian basketball reach new heights thanks to a range of joint research and development initiatives, similar to University projects which have supported Australian cycling in recent years.

    A corporate partnership with the local Rockhampton Rockets and Cyclones teams is just the start of a longer-term relationship.

  • Uni prioritises premises for community benefit

    Central Queensland University will act on its holdings on Rockhampton's East Street to respond to the greater needs of the community and direct scarce resources to learning, teaching and research activities, it was announced this week.

    The University will seek interested parties for development of the heritage-listed Post Office building and will make way for the Department of Justice and Attorney General to return to 3 former courts buildings.

  • Keleher an invited juror for Youth Physics Tournament

    This year is the second that CQU's Dr Patrick Keleher has been a juror for the Australian section of the International Youth Physics Tournament, which serves to select the Australian team for the world event in Croatia during May.

    (The Australian team won last year's competition in Seoul, Korea).
