Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    Her Excellency Ms Quentin Bryce this week launched a new book featuring moving stories of more than 300 pioneering women from all regions of bush Queensland from the 1860s to the 1960s.

    The CQU Press publication is based on the same research that produced the Women of the West exhibition at the Queensland Museum.

  • Violence prevention forum signals start of month

    Domestic and Family Violence Prevention month (May) begins with a day-long forum highlighting and celebrating responses to Indigenous family violence.

    Based at Central Queensland University Mackay, the Queensland Centre for Domestic & Family Violence Research and its Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Reference Group members have invited leading Indigenous researchers and policy-makers to present developments relating to family violence prevention.

  • Contraceptive pill may reduce sport Injuries in women

    The contraceptive pill may be the answer for sports women who are prone to knee injuries, according to a Queensland study.

    The study results will be revealed during a pre-Olympic conference in Athens (the European Society for Sports Medicine, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy on May 5-8).

    Country singer/songwriter Melinda Schneider has incorporated footage of CQU's Heritage Post Office in her latest video clip.

    The footage will appear on the video of her soon to be released single 'Real People' which is a story set in the Rockhampton region.

  • Doctors, coaches and sports scientists due to gather in July

    Medical practitioners, sports scientists, coaches, trainers, students and athletes are expected to gather from throughout Central Queensland on July 17-18 this year.

    They have been invited to attend the second Central Queensland Sports Medicine and Sports Science Conference and an associated Level 2 Sports Trainer Course which starts a day earlier.

  • CQU hosts Relay for Life tax seminar

    On Saturday, May 8, a Relay for Life team will conduct a Small Business Tax Seminar fundraiser at CQU Rockhampton.

    The seminar will focus on the current requirements and expectations of small business and its compliance in the event of an audit relative to the GST Law, Taxation Law, Personal Services Legislation, Workcover requirements (since changes to the definition of worker were implemented in December 2002) and the current requirements of Centrelink in fulfilling obligations when receiving pensions.

  • New partnership a win-win for CQ region

    Central Queensland University (CQU) and Central Queensland Institute of TAFE (CQIT) have entered into a new partnership to leverage each other's strengths and increase their already close affiliation.

    The two organisations have signed a ‘Joint Activity Agreement’ to provide a comprehensive range of educational opportunities to meet the needs and aspirations of Central Queenslanders.

  • Dr Taylor spreads word on Community Informatics

    CQU Community Informatics researcher Dr Wal Taylor has just returned from presenting a keynote address at a conference in Brighton (England) and is preparing to present a keynote in Adelaide and contribute to a conference in Canberra during May.

    Dr Taylor's visit to the Community Network Analysis Conference in England was funded by the University of Brighton.

  • CQU helps train Dubai official

    CQU's Direct Edge corporate development arm has provided training for an officer of one of the world's most rapidly developing countries, the United Arab Emirates in the Persian Gulf.

    Working in conjunction with Austrade and Queensland Purchasing, Direct Edge provided a mentoring program for the visitor.
