Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    Sarah-Jayne Watson is one of the shining stars among those attending the CQUniversity Bundaberg graduation, due to be held from 5pm this Thursday (April 29) at the Moncrieff Theatre.

    The outstanding graduate has earned the Bachelor of Learning Management Student Award for the highest Grade Point Average (GPA) and the Top VET Student Award, also based on GPA.

    Nineteen high-achieving students have been rewarded with a total of 24 prizes and scholarships in front of about 80 guests, during a ceremony at CQUniversity Mackay's Conservatorium Theatre last Friday (April 23).

    Key awards included Hail Creek Mine scholarships, each worth $4000, presented by Mine General Manager Andrew Woodley to: Brittany Power; Amanda Bovero; Markeen Valdez; Philippa Cary; Mitchell Saxby and Brady Giannangleo.

    Dr Peter Richardson, former Chairman of the National Association of Specialist Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (NASOG), will join CQUniversity as an Adjunct Professor from July, lending his expertise to our School of Medical and Applied Sciences and programs such as midwifery, medical imaging and clinical investigation.

    Dr Richardson, an obstetrician and gynaecologist who, as a young doctor, trained with fertility pioneer Dr Patrick Steptoe, was drawn to the regional Queensland institution because of his interest in rural medicine and CQUniversity's reputation in nursing and midwifery, as well as its emerging presence as a provider of medical science specialties.
