Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • Music Theatre graduate promoting Cinderella role

    The man who will place the glass slipper on Cinderella in the upcoming Broadway Asia Tour of the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic is Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music (part of CQUniversity) graduate and former Mackay resident Peter Saide.

    Saide graduated from the Bachelor of Music Theatre degree in 2003.

    CQUniversity congratulates Community Employment Options Inc, winner of the Community Contribution of the Year Award during the Rockhampton Regional Development & Ergon Energy Business Excellence Awards 2008 announced last Friday (June 27).

    The 'community contribution' category was sponsored by CQUniversity and Vice-Chancellor Professor John Rickard, who is also a RRDL board Director, presented the award at the gala dinner.

    CQUniversity's Brijesh Verma is chair of the Computational Intelligence Society Queensland Chapter which has been selected for the 2009 IEEE Computational Intelligence Society Outstanding Chapter Award.

    The motion to bestow the award was approved by the Society's administrative committee during its June 1 meeting in Hong Kong.

  • Distance students take their first STEPS on campus

    CQUniversity's current STEPS (Skills for Tertiary Education Preparatory Studies) distance education students came together for a ‘Big Day on Campus' at CQUniversity campuses recently.

    Students from Rockhampton, Gladstone, Mackay and Bundaberg regions came together at their local campuses to spend a day exploring the campus, talking with lecturers and chatting with fellow students.

    Curiously as the medical profession calls for health care to be increasingly based on evidence rather routine, nurse practitioner roles are attacked without substance or justification.

    That is according to CQUniversity's Professor of Contemporary Nursing Brenda Happell who said "indeed the evidence suggests otherwise".
