Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    Shah Haque, a student at the Process Engineering and Light Metals Centre (PELM) at CQU Gladstone has won the Best Student Paper Award in the Fluid Mechanics category at The 2006 WSEAS (World Scientific and Engineering Academy and Society) International Conference on Fluid Mechanics held in Miami, Florida, USA, last month (January 18-20).

    The Master of Engineering student presented a paper on Numerical Simulation of Turbulent Flow inside the Electrostatic Precipitator (ESP) of a Power Plant.

    A group of students from Carleton College, an independent and highly selective American university, visited Gladstone this week to study the impact of natural and human-induced disturbances on costal environments.

    The students attended a lecture given by Central Queensland University’s Dr Leonie Andersen (pictured) on the Port Curtis Integrated Monitoring Program (PCIMP), to learn about human-induced disturbances in the Gladstone region.

    An information session focusing on employing people with disabilities was held on Tuesday February 21 at Central Queensland University Rockhampton.

    Aimed at human resource and management personnel, the information session aimed to explain the recent legislative changes associated with the employment of people with disabilities.
