Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    The Showcase, organised by the University’s Division of Teaching and Learning Services, has become an annual event held in February – just before the beginning of the first major teaching term.

    Rain failed to deter eager students who attended this week’s information day for CQU’s Indigenous support centre, Nulloo Yumbah, at CQU Mackay.

    The information sessions provided Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with alternative entry information and pathways to assist with gaining entry into university.

    CQU, like most modern universities, undertakes research and teaching using biological and chemical materials which can cause harm if not properly managed.

    Emeritus Professor Glenice Hancock, who retired as Vice-Chancellor and President of CQU in 2004, has been named as a Member (AM) in the General Division in this week’s Australia Day honours list.

    Professor Hancock, who has retired to Sydney, gained the award for service to educational administration through leadership and management roles in the tertiary and public school sectors.

  • Noosa Hub graduate feels right at home at Pomona

    CQU Noosa Hub graduate Maxine Crawford (pictured left) has been welcomed as teacher of the Year 2/3 class at Pomona State School by the school’s Head of Campus, Dr Gwen Sands, while Principal, Peter Bradford, is farewelled on long service leave.

    Maxine performed her final-year prac placement at Pomona State School, and so impressed her mentors that they were delighted to have her fill a vacant position.
