Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • Info sessions to help indigenous students 'TEP' into a better future

    Central Queensland University is encouraging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to consider university as their key to a better future.

    CQU's Indigenous Learning, Spirituality and Research Centre Nulloo Yumbah is holding information sessions on its Tertiary Entry Program (TEP) next week at Mackay, Gladstone and Bundaberg campuses.

  • Spanish and English evening language classes available

    The Language Centre at CQU Rockhampton is offering Spanish and English evening language classes from next week onwards.

    There will be a sign-on and meet-the-teacher evening from 6pm-7pm on Wednesday January 23 at the CQU Language Centre (Building 11).

  • Bursary available for Central Highlands students

    Each year the Queensland Country Women's Association (QCWA - Central Highlands Division) offers a Bursary of $500 to recognise a student's academic achievement.

    The Bursary is open for applications from full-time, first-year students:

    • whose permanent home address is in the Central Highlands, Central Queensland; and
    • who are enrolled in any program offered by Central Queensland University in 2007; and
    • who will be continuing full-time study in that program at CQU in 2008.

      CQU Melbourne International Campus has recognised its high achieving students with presentation of the State Director's Awards for Leadership.

      These awards primarily acknowledge outstanding academic achievement as well as leadership potential, but also recognise qualities which inspire others such as:

      • assistance to fellow students
      • respect for cultural diversity
      • strong interpersonal and communication skills.

        Central Queensland University's Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Executive Dean Professor Elizabeth Taylor has been awarded the 2007 Eric Brier Memorial Medal for her significant contribution to advancing the public status of the engineering profession, particularly in the field of sustainable development.

        The Eric Brier Memorial Award is a legacy bequeathed to the Queensland Division of Engineers Australia, awarded annually to a member of Engineers Australia.
