Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    CQU staff and students have been invited to attend the Islamic Society of Central Queensland's Open Day at the Rockhampton Mosque.

    The Mosque, on the corner of Fitzroy and Kent streets, will host the event from 10am on Saturday June 21, with presentations from 10.

    Recent Bachelor of Jazz graduate Damian Campbell says he had 'an absolute ball at Uni' and is still doing so thanks to his love of music.

    He loves his job selling drums and percussion instruments at Brisbane's huge Billy Hyde Drumworx store and is also moonlighting up and down the east coast, as member of several bands.

  • Masters graduate wins Premier's Reconciliation Award

    Congratulations to CQU Masters graduate Vanessa Seekee and her husband Liberty, who have won the 2008 Premier's Reconciliation Award for their efforts to preserve and highlight the World War II history of Indigenous people from the Torres Strait.

    Ms Seekee, from Gateway Resort on Horn Island, where she runs a museum operation, was supervised by Dr Steve Mullins and Dr Karl Neuenfeldt for her MA in History on World War II in the Torres Strait.

  • Fruitful outcomes expected from student DVD project

    Three CQU Bundaberg digital media students have recently completed a DVD designed to educate high school students about careers in production horticulture.

    Titled Your Future is Here: Careers in Production Horticulture in the Bundaberg Region, the DVD was funded by the Australian Government through the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations Industry Training Strategies Program and the Queensland Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries, and was coordinated by Bundaberg Fruit and Vegetable Growers.

  • Healthy links developing with The Philippines

    Healthy links are developing between CQU 's College of Health and Human Services and The Philippines, cemented by several visitors to Rockhampton this month.

    The recent visitors included Manila-based Manuel Lee, the President and CEO of Asiareach International Management, an organisation which places English-speaking Filipino professionals in jobs around the world.

  • World Environment Day bid based on CQU PhD study

    Among the finalists for the recent 2008 United Nations Association of Australia World Environment Day Awards was Midell Developments, the company behind the Sunrise at 1770 project.

    A related company - Midell Water Solutions Pty Ltd - has been formed from the intellectual property from PhD study by CQU's Ben Kele.
