Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    The conference is an initiative of the United Nations and the Queensland Government.

    Minister for Women Desley Boyle hopes a Statewide seminar - including four CQU campus videoconference sites - will dispel IT's nerdy image and encourage women to enter the lucrative industry.

    "Fewer than 20% of IT professionals are women - yet it is one of the highest-paying industries in Australia," Ms Boyle said.

    Vice-Chancellor Professor John Rickard has officially launched Studies in Learning, Evaluation, Innovation and Development - a new, electronic, scholarly journal about teaching and learning.

    The journal provides a forum for high quality research into teaching and learning.

    The meetings will be held in the Monto Shire Council function room (Monday, November 1), the Gayndah Shire Council supper room (Tuesday, November 2), the Wondai Waterwatch Office (Wednesday, November 3) and CQU Bundaberg (Thursday, November 4).
