Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    The Bachelor of Music students are at it again, rehearsing day and night for their second major production this year 'The Pajama Game'. 

    Director, Kim Hardwick started work on the production last Monday with the students ready for the show to open next Thursday.

    On Wednesday, a perpetual trophy for the NAIDOC (National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Day of Celebration) schools' touch football competition was presented at Pioneer High School.

    The trophy is sponsored by the Queensland Centre for Domestic and Family Violence Research at Central Queensland University and was presented by the Centre's Director, Heather Nancarrow, at the school assembly.

    CQU Professor Evelyn Hovenga is the organising committee chair for Medinfo 2007, a major congress involving health IT experts from around the world.

    More than 600 papers and posters from 42 countries will be presented at the Health Informatics Society of Australia (HISA) event.

    CQU recently hosted more than 360 delegates to the annual conference for QUESTnet, the Queensland Education, Science and Technology Network.

    There were delegates from 33 of the 39 universities in Australia and also 15 international visitors, including those from universities in New Zealand, Hong Kong and South Africa.

  • Rum centre gets spirited support from campus

    The new Bundaberg Rum Visitor's Centre has developed in partnership with its community's creative talent, including members of the Bundaberg Media Research Group (BMRG) based at the local CQU campus.

    BMRG member Dr Grayson Cooke, who lectures in digital media and coordinates the Bachelor of Digital Innovation, produced a short film on the sugar industry and a short film on the process of building rum vats, and provided some of the photographs used in the display panels.
