Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • Uni partner in $18 million water research centre

    CQUniversity is a partner in the new SmartWater Research Centre, a collaboration of universities, local government and industry, which was formally opened recently (Nov 27) by Queensland Treasurer Andrew Fraser.

    Mr Fraser said the Centre would help Queensland plan for the future with "world-class research into water safety, water security and water supply".

  • Emergency Management System 'enables best practice'

    CQUniversity has signed off on an Emergency Management System (EMS) which will enable it to meet best practice while also achieving compliance with the demanding requirements of Queensland Building and Fire Safety Regulations.

    The EMS components - which have the trade name of Fire Evacuation Program (FEP) - consist of an online interactive training program which is able to deliver a large proportion of the training, instruction, assessment and records management which is a requirement of the legislation.

  • Forum chance for grassroots perspective on domestic violence issues

    Representatives of the Australian Law Reform Commission will meet with over 100 delegates at a forum in Brisbane to discuss the complex interaction between state and territory family and domestic violence and child protection laws and the Family Law Act 1975 (Cth).

    The ALRC, in collaboration with the NSW Law Reform Commission, and in consultation with other states and territories, is investigating this issue following recommendations to the Australian Government by the National Council to Reduce Violence against Women and their children in April this year.

  • Teens gear up for science experience

    Students completing Year 9 in 2009 and who wish to experience the ‘real world' of science can attend a 3-day program at CQUniversity on the eve of the 2010 school year.

    It is expected that about 70 students will attend the Science Experience program which will be held in Rockhampton and Mackay from January 19 to 21.
