Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    By looking at these photos you could be forgiven for thinking these students really have been mummified! But no – these second-year students studying the Bachelor of Multimedia studies at CQU Mackay have simply been wrapped in toilet paper during their Digital Movie Making class this week.

    The tutorial with CQU lecturer Martin Francis required the group of students to produce a 30-second commercial.

    Mental health researcher Dr Lorna Moxham continues to find that people with mental illness may be de-institutionalised but often remain under institution-like conditions.

    Dr Moxham said that being based in the community often meant life was still like living in an institution anyway - the very thing community care was trying to avoid.

    CQU Engineering students Dallas Edwards, Charles Hatte, Chris Ault and Scott Mannley will travel to Sydney on September 23-25 to compete in the Weir-Warman and Engineers Australia, Design and Build Competition at the Power House Museum.

    Students had to design a device to complete the specified scope.

    Once again the Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music has put on another top show in the form of Barry Manilow’s Musical Comedy ‘Copacabana’.

    Over 750 people visited the Conservatorium Theatre to enjoy the CQCM’s major production for this year, which featured a cast of 35 Bachelor of Music Theatre students and live music provided by the CQCM orchestra.
