Students undertaking the Understanding Tourism course on Rockhampton campus were recently visited in their class by Tony Cullen and Anthea Curtis, from Rockhampton Tourist and Business Information (RTBI).
Anthea, RTBI Events Manager and coordinator of the volunteer program for Beef 2006, invited students to participate in Beef 2006 and gain some ‘on the ground’ experience of what it is like to be involved in such a major business-tourism special event.

- First Indigenous psychology graduates celebrated

Central Queensland University’s Nulloo Yumbah centre has celebrated its first two Indigenous psychology graduates.
Sarah Lippitt, 21, and Samantha Cooms, 21, successfully graduated with honours from CQU’s Bachelor of Psychology program this month and are both now working as counsellors for the Bidgerdii Community Health Service and Bidgerdii Regional Training Centre in Rockhampton respectively.

A French researcher visiting CQU is developing a model and collecting data to indicate the amount of environmental flow required to prevent Byfield's Waterpark Creek changing from a freshwater, rainforest-bounded community into an estaurine, mangrove-bounded community.
Thomas Aubron (pictured) from Esitpa Ecole d'ingenieurs Agriculture in France is based at CQU Rockhampton as an intern student for six months (from late February to late August).

CQU's Faculty of Business & Informatics Gladstone Sub-Dean, Jan Lewis has helped establish a Gladstone Region Women in Business Support Program.
Ms Lewis was a member of the Gladstone Area Promotion & Development Limited steering committee that set up the organisation and also assisted in the training needs analysis.

A comprehensive report released in the Mackay Whitsunday Region this week provides a better understanding of the health of mangroves in the Bassett Basin.
The Regional Coordinator of the Mackay Whitsunday Natural Resource Management (NRM) Group, Kelly Flower said the report, developed in conjunction with Central Queensland University (CQU) Mackay, investigated changes in herbicide levels in Pioneer River mangrove sediments and their relationship to mangrove health.
