Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • Tales from "The Creek" told at CQU

    The closure of the Lakes Creek meatworks in September of this year provided a catalyst for three Central Queensland University researchers to address the importance of the Lakes Creek Meatworks in Rockhampton.

    CQU’s Gordon Stewart, Dr Barbara Webster and Professor Peter Smith will present their findings at a presentation titled Tales From “The Creek” today, Friday 22 November, from 1 to 2pm.

    After three years in a theatre set within a Mackay canefield, graduates of Australia\'s only bachelor of music theatre degree have arranged their own showcase in Melbourne for agents and industry professionals.

    They have also raised their own funds for the visit through performances, carwashes and catering ventures.

  • Student dancers eligible for Las Vegas Prize

    Student dancers Holly Headrick and Ashley Fergus have won their way through to the Showcase Grand National Championship, to be held at Jupiters Casino on the Gold Coast in January.

    Both dancers won enough points at the regional finals in Townsville recently to make them eligible for the Dancer of the Year category, for which awards include cash prizes and a trip to an international dance competition at Las Vegas.

  • Aquaculture Centre opens at CQU; Fish help plants grow

    Central Queensland University researchers are closely studying the efficiencies of recycled water and the reuse of aquaculture waste products as nutrients for growing plants at the new Aquaculture Centre, which officially opened at CQU Rockhampton this week.

    The Centre currently raises several fish species, including barramundi, silver perch and red claw in its ponds.

    The Director of Central Queensland University’s indigenous education centre, Nulloo Yumbah, will discuss the current issues in indigenous education at an Australian College of Educators (ACE) Dinner today, Thursday 21 November.

    William Oates will present the topic Educating Indigenous Australians: Beyond a multicultural perspective, where he will discuss how Aboriginal staff and students in education institutions are expected to add to multicultural events in schools, universities and the wider community.
