Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    CQUniversity has welcomed major national research grants in the areas of agri-food networks, networked control systems and strategies to combat lung infections.

    Associate Professor Stewart Lockie has gained $147,000 from the Australian Research Council (ARC) to fund work on the social and environmental implications of privately-regulated food quality standards for agri-food networks in the Asia-Pacific.

    CQUniversity Rockhampton showed its support to the National Breast Cancer Foundation's (NBCF) Global Illumination campaign recently by lighting up selected buildings with a pink glow in September.

    About 82 students and their friends and family members gathered at CQUniversity Bundaberg on October 13 to celebrate the end of the Uni prep program known as STEPS.

    STEPS, or Skills for Tertiary Entrance Preparatory Studies, has been successful over many years helping students without recent senior high school experience progress into university.

  • Music and Theatre auditions due in Rockhampton and Mackay

    CQUniversity has updated the schedule of auditions for its new Bachelor of Music (Specialisation) and Bachelor of Theatre (Specialisation) degrees.

    The University has announced that from 2009, the Theatre specialisations will be based at Mackay Campus and the Music specialisations at Rockhampton Campus.

    Jenny Simpson passed away on Saturday (Oct 11) after a battle with cancer.  Jenny commenced at CQUniversity in 1992 and taught over 1000 students during her 15 years with the STEPS program.
