Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    Central Queensland University researchers will interview nurses who have cared for at-home patients in Central Queensland for the last 50 years.

    Faculty of Arts Health and Sciences lecturer Wendy Madsen said the group aims to document the working lives of domiciliary nurses who responded to the health needs of patients in the community between 1960 and 1990.

  • Education tour builds funds for students

    More than $350 was raised for CQU scholarships and awards from an education tour hosted by the CQU Foundation /Division of University Relations. 106 Central Queensland community members visited and studied significant archaeological sites connected with the early settlement of the Australian South Sea Island population in and around the Rockhampton, Farnborough, Yeppoon, Keppel Sands and Joskeleigh area.

    When asked to speak to Arts teachers from around the region about implementation of the new Arts Syllabus in Queensland schools, Bachelor of Performing Arts lecturer, Howard Cassidy took an innovative approach.

    Howard used students from years 5,6 and 7 classes at Frenchville State School along with some of his own students to interact with the 20 Arts teachers who attended the implementation workshop.

    Professor Dag Ericsson, a consultant to Sweden's leading manufacturers will offer advice about e-commerce and e-logistics at a half day workshop at CQU Rockhampton on Thursday morning, April 15.

    Ericsson, who pioneered the Swedish concept of materials administration and supply chain management in the 1970s, currently focuses on the relationship between technology, management and organisational effectiveness; in particular the enablement of renewal processes and organisational restructuring.

    Central Queensland University digital moviemaker Martin Francis has secured funding to create the first documentary detailing the history of Mackay’s Indonesian population. The first session of interviews begin next week, with Mr Francis expecting to take three weeks to record the stories and history of six elders and family.
