Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    CQUniversity Sydney introduced an environmental committee over 12 months ago to reduce its impact on the environment and to help educate staff and students on environmental issues.

    Susan Loomes, Campus Director, Sydney, believes we should be doing everything possible to address environmental issues and this is a small way of making a difference.

    CQUniversity will showcase the wide array of careers and new technologies in science to celebrate National Science Week, held from August 16 - 24 this year.

    A highlight of the celebrations will be a presentation by Natalie Hatch, one of the 250 Australian participants in The Climate Project, Al Gore's climate change leadership program, and a Science teacher at North Rockhampton State High School.

  • Artists urged to capture essence of Uni education

    In conjunction with its 30th anniversary celebrations, CQUniversity Gladstone has announced it will be holding an art competition, providing a unique opportunity for artists to capture the essence of tertiary education in Gladstone.

    The competition is open to artists from anywhere but the organiser, CQUniversity Gladstone Marketing Coordinator Sheryle Gherardi is hoping that the prize money of $2400 will attract a broad range of entries from local artists.

    CQUniversity Rockhampton is this month (July) hosting 9 Japanese high school students, aged 15-17, at its Language Centre.

    The students are spending their mornings on English lessons and their afternoons touring the region and participating in cultural activites.

    CQUniversity Australia will once again be presenting at the Queensland Mining and Engineering Exhibition (QME) held in Mackay from July 22-24, showcasing its ‘real world' education opportunities for the mining and engineering industry.

    Previously known as Central Queensland University, CQUniversity Australia retains its strong connection to Central Queensland whilst acknowledging the University's national presence and leading position in the international higher education sector.
