Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    CQUniversity lecturer Sandrine Makiela has contributed to a Meals on Wheels Queensland training video providing tips on safe food delivery.

    She is shown in the video doing laboratory tests on microbial levels in a chicken meal left at room temperature for an hour, compared with those in a refrigerated meal.

    The 'Chefs R US' Relay for Life team has successfully launched their morning tea recipe book - at where else but a morning tea!

    A total of $235 was raised at recent Friday morning event, with many of the CQUniversity staff again cooking up a storm and showcasing their fine creations for all to enjoy. The team is proudly supported by the University Services Division and copies of the $15 book were selling like hotcakes.

    As a postgraduate student in Adelaide, Venelin Stamatov helped with extensive tests required for the fuel-delivering systems of the torch and cauldron used for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

    Now a lecturer, Dr Stamatov is specialising in the physics of combustion and explosion, laser flow visualisation, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, alternative liquid transport fuels, environmental protection and sustainability of the Australian economy.

    CQUniversity Noosa is set to have its first full-time dedicated Head of Campus, with the appointment of Pro Vice-Chancellor and Executive Dean Professor Kevin Tickle designed to drive growth at the facility, currently located in Goodchap Street in Noosaville.

    Professor Tickle, presently based at Rockhampton, will continue to lead the Faculty of Arts, Business, Informatics and Education (FABIE) and will be taking an increasingly hands-on role at Noosa during a period of transition, before moving full-time to the campus at the start of 2012.
