Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • CQU Bundaberg hosts dual celebration

    CQU Bundaberg recently celebrated 2 special occasions - 76 students graduating from the STEPS program in 2006 and the 20th anniversary of the program.

    Around 220 guests were present at the STEPS graduation and about 250 guests joined in the 20th anniversary celebrations later that night.

    Liam McIlwain, a student of CQU's Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music, has been so busy touring with professional musical productions that he plans to complete his degree via distance education.

    Liam has just completed the premiere season for the new Australian musical 'Dusty' (performances finished in Brisbane on September 30) and he is having a brief rest before his next commitment.

    Ben Ashby, who has recently completed his studies at CQU Noosa Hub, has found a good stepping stone into his teaching career.

    He is among only 12 people to succeed in a competitive process to take part in a pilot of paid internships for pre-service teachers at schools in rural and remote Queensland.

    Faculty of Business & Informatics staff members Kerry Walz and Tracey Marxen have received 'Pride Of Workmanship Awards' from the Rotary Club of Rockhampton East.

    Kerry, a Client Service Officer, and Tracey, a Faculty Admin Officer, received their awards during a Rotary function in mid-October.

    CQU's Regional Centre of the Arts (RCotA) has awarded $69,000 to approved arts projects in Central Queensland.

    A $25,000 grant has been awarded to David Downer for his ‘Rainbow Serpent Sculpture’ project and $30,000 goes to Alison Lees and the Queensland Music Festival for ‘The Song Train’.
