Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    The inaugural 'Learning Management: Pedagogy that works' conference is being held at the Twin Waters Resort on the Sunshine Coast, and is being hosted by CQU Noosa Hub.

  • Campuses host schools' chemistry competition

    The Royal Australian Chemical Institute (RACI) in conjunction with CQU's College of Sciences has this week (Thursday) conducted the Central Queensland Regional Schools titration competition at 3 campuses (Rockhampton, Gladstone and Bundaberg), as well as at a number of schools remote from these venues (holding it in their own schools at the same time).

    The winners, who will be invited to participate in the National Finals Competition to be held on October 18, were from Bundaberg State High, North Rockhampton State High, St Ursula's College (Yeppoon) and Rockhampton Grammar.

    CQU Performing Arts students will present the Tony Award-winning musical 'Chicago' at Rockhampton's Pilbeam Theatre - with 3 performances - on September 27-28 this year.

    Under the direction of professional industry mentors Wayne Scott Kermond and Katie Kermond, they will stage the popular story of murder, greed, corruption, violence, exploitation, adultery and treachery - 'all those things we hold near and dear to our hearts'.

  • Con students sing praises of Mackay region

    Two songbirds from the Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music have sung the praises of the Mackay region as part of the 3-day 'Queensland on Show' event in Melbourne earlier in August.

    CQU had a sponsored presence at the event and the Mackay Whitsunday Regional Economic Development Corporation sponsored the Con students to sing at the opening and during the event.

  • Experienced performer in Velma role for 'Chicago'

    Experienced Rockhampton performer Tessa Coulter will play the lead role of Velma Kelly in a production of 'Chicago' at the Pilbeam Theatre next month. 

    It will be her third time working with visiting professional industry mentors; Wayne Scott Kermond and Kate Kermond - she previously appeared for them in 'Guys and Dolls' and 'A Chorus Line' during her time as a CQU student.
