Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    Over 100 invited guests enjoyed lunch with Deputy Prime Minister John Anderson on Friday as he unveiled the federal government’s plan to fund a science and technology precinct based at Central Queensland University Mackay.

    CQU Vice Chancellor Professor John Rickard and Head of Mackay Campus, Professor Phillip Clift were among the invited guests at the lunch held in the grounds of CQU Mackay.

    Students were pleased with the guidance provided by Mary Agar Wilson and Roslyn McCarthy (both from Student Services) in relation to exam procedures.

    Work is planned to rectify cracks which have been developing in the external wall of the Old District Court in East Street.

    CQU Director of Facilities Management Philip Hancock said the Queensland Government Department of Public Works and the University had jointly agreed to a program of works to rectify the problem.

    CQU Gladstone has announced it will introduce the Bachelor of Learning Management (BLM) degree with a secondary school option from next year, thanks to additional funded places from the Commonwealth Government.

    The CQU graduation ceremony at Sydney Town Hall on Friday, September 10, included the presentation of an Honorary Doctor of Education degree to Don Burrows, who has been at the forefront of the jazz world for most of his 62 years in the business.

    CQU staff member David Downer has used a fusion of painting and photography to create works for his first art exhibition, ‘The Light Fantastic’.

    The exhibition will be open from 7pm on Friday, November 5, at the Walter Reid Cultural Centre in East Street.
