Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    The race currently underway around the world to create technology that can read human handwriting, recognise individuals from their face or body and understand human speech is the subject of a new book by researchers Associate Professor Brijesh Verma of CQUniversity and Dr Michael Blumenstein of Griffith University.

    CQUniversity Australia's representative on the recent Australia and India Universities Youth Forum, Jackie Dempsey reports that she had a "wonderful time" and gained valuable ideas and strategies.

    Ms Dempsey is a third-year Bachelor of Learning Management student based at CQU Bundaberg, who hopes to become a primary school teacher.

  • Conservatorium showcases talent on regional tour

    North Queensland high school students had a unique opportunity recently to work with (and be mentored by) talented staff and students from the Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music (CQCM), as part of the CQCM Outreach Tour.

    Coordinated by Mackay CQCM Lecturer Derrin Kerr, the tour was designed to expose young musicians in North Queensland to industry experts.

    CQUniversity Australia recently announced the establishment of the ‘Multicultural Sponsorship Fund', setting aside $25,000 to support multiculturalism within Central Queensland.

    Suzi Blair, Director, Office of Development and Graduate Relations, sees this as an excellent opportunity for CQUniversity to collaborate with local community organisations to promote greater acceptance and understanding of cultural diversity.
