Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    The students were hired by the CEM to sort macrobenthic samples from the sea floor.

    Rebuilding a footbridge at CQU Mackay was the final project completed in a face-lift for a pond located near the Faculty of Education & Creative Arts.

    Part of the project saw Buildings Officer Steve Oberg wading neck-deep in water in readiness for refilling the pond to capacity.

    Local high school students will benefit from the signing of a memorandum of understanding that occurred yesterday (February 4, 2003) between Central Queensland University and Toolooa State High School.

    The event signifies the start of an innovative pilot program that aims to establish alternate pathways for entry into CQU’s Bachelor of Engineering and Bachelor of Engineering Technology programs.

    CQU Web CT coordinator Phillipa Sturgess said the supplier’s withdrawal of this product has forced CQU to seek an alternative system.

    Central Queensland University’s Office of Research are keen to get moving after receiving a small slice of $30,000 offered through the 10,000 Steps’ Community Initiatives Grant Scheme.

    The office received $360 to purchase nine pedometers for its staff who now are spending one hour a week exercising as a group.

    An elder from the traditional owners of the land now occupied by the Queensland Centre for the Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence welcomed the Centre’s new director recently.

    Unable to attend the official opening in October due to illness, Yuibera elder Nita Kemp, joined by husband Tim and son Phillip, greeted new Director Heather Nancarrow at CQU Mackay last Friday.
