Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    The emerging discipline of community informatics encompasses the use of information and communication systems to support services, development and action in communities.

    Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Research) Professor Ron Davies and Federal Member for Maranoa Bruce Scott made the presentations.

  • Students hit the catwalk for Emerald careers expo

    Emerald State High School and Marist College students are set to model examples of appropriate work-wear as part of the 2003 Careers Expo due at the Emerald Town Hall, from 1pm–6pm on Wednesday, July 30.

    CQU is among 30 exhibitors from organisations, colleges and universities across the State to offer information on career options including traineeships, apprenticeships and tertiary courses.

    The 'Rocky Horror Picture Show' movie screenings with live performers - dubbed \'Horrors in Rocky' - are back again at Lee Kernaghan's Great Western Hotel bullring.

    Around 800 people enjoyed last year's inaugural event, and this year\'s rendition will be at 7.

    Around 16,000 Queenslanders have flocked to concerts featuring Grace Knight and CQU’s Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music jazz orchestra.

    The tour finished on Hamilton Island last night (Monday, July 8) after visiting Noosa, Bundaberg, Gladstone, Rockhampton, Cairns, Magnetic Island and Mackay.

  • University careers start mid-year

    Central Queensland University hosted mid-year orientation activities this week with more than 300 offers made to new students to start their study mid-year at CQU’s Central Queensland campuses and by distance education.

    Forty-one offers were made to students to commence study in Winter term on-campus in Rockhampton, while 27 offers were made for Bundaberg, 18 for Mackay and 10 for Gladstone.
