Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    CQUniversity graduate Aaron Fraser has won 2 industry awards* since completing a Graduate Diploma of Railway Signalling and Telecommunications last year.

    His diploma was completed as part of the Graduate Development Program run by his employer, Ansaldo STS.

  • Landfills likely to dump clay capping, Kartik at cusp of change

    Research by CQUniversity doctoral student Kartik Venkatraman is helping convince urban planners to dump the old practice of capping city landfills with clay, in favour of soil and trees.

    Kartik has been doing the important technical monitoring and site comparisons to prove that phytocapping (where phyto means trees) is a better option and he expects the trend to be picked up throughout Queensland and Australia.

    CQUniversity would like to advise that Dr Pierre Viljoen recently accepted the position of  Pro Vice-Chancellor (Community and Engagement) and Head of Campus Mackay, and will be moving to Mackay with his family in the next couple of weeks.

    Pierre, at Gladstone since 2006, has been a driving force behind community initiatives to foster and facilitate education pathways.

    The Rockhampton-based academic is hoping to find out the precise factors that motivate people to download and install software that may potentially contain spyware.

    Secondary school principals from the Gladstone region this week joined with representatives from Central Queensland Institute of TAFE (CQIT) and CQUniversity in signing a memorandum of understanding to provide supported pathways into engineering for students in Gladstone.

    Gladstone Region Engineering Careers (GReEn Careers) in partnership with Gladstone Secondary Schools, CQIT and CQUniversity has been able to facilitate a range of experiences for year 11 and 12 students to provide supported and alternative pathways into engineering careers.
