- Indigenous students enjoy their science

Although Science Week activities finished last week, CQU Mackay lecturers Dr Judith Wake and Delma Clifton were still out and about analysing pond samples during this week's visit by Indigenous students from Mackay State High School.
During the environmental science workshop, students viewed micro-organisms including diatoms, rotifers, ciliates and flatworms under a microscope, and there were many surprised faces when the students realised the abundance of life in the CQU pond water!.

- Musical scores available to schools

The Library at CQU Mackay celebrated its latest acquisition with a wine and cheese night earlier this week.
The reason for the celebration is that Mackay Orchestras Incorporated (MOI) has transferred its orchestral music collection of scores to the CQU Library to be properly housed in an air-conditioned environment and managed appropriately by the library.

The celebration of National Science Week at CQU Mackay culminated in the annual SCINEMA Film Festival, which was held over the weekend.
SCINEMA is run by the National Museum of Australia and CSIRO and has been screened at CQU Mackay for the past two years as part of the National Science Week program.

The Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music established yet another link with Australian Idol this weekend as the CQCM Jazz Orchestra performed on Hamilton Island during the Hahn Premium Race Week presentation evening on Saturday.
Performing with the Jazz Orchestra was past top 3 Australian Idol Courtney Murphy, who lit up the stage with his famous ‘Idol’ charm as he sung the Beatles ‘Help’ and ‘Bad Habits’ by Billy Fields to a Race Week crowd of over 700 people.
