Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    CQU Gladstone may be well positioned to provide essential training and research support to a multi-billion-dollar XTRATA nickel plant operation planned for New Caledonia after a visit to the campus by Jean-Pierre Beaudry and Thierry Bonnet De Larbogne from Koniambo Nickel last week.

    Metallurgical instructor,  Jean-Pierre, process engineer Thierry, and training manager Pamani Siwa were in Gladstone on a week-long visit to investigate opportunities for staff training at the trade, tertiary and industrial levels.

    The staff of CQU Gladstone were part of the entertainment on Sunday when the annual Gladstone Harbour Festival kicked off with the Rio Tinto Street Parade.

    This year's parade had almost 70 entries ranging from fully decorated semi trailers and surf lifesaving boats to walking groups in fancy dress.

    CQU researchers are keen to help Queensland avoid ‘Dutch disease’ in the wake of a coal boom which could almost double in intensity over the next 5 years.

    The ‘Dutch disease’ phenomenon - named after the 1970s North Sea oil and gas boom - is where a resources boom over-amplifies declines in other sectors.

    The Faculty of Business and Informatics (FBI) hosted a Scholarships and Prizes ceremony in Rockhampton on Tuesday March 13 at The Quality Inn, Centrepoint.

    Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Executive Dean Professor Gus Geursen presented the prizes to students who achieved the highest passing marks in a range of subjects including Economics, Accounting, Marketing, Information Technology, Human Resources, Law, Property Valuation and Business Analysis.
