Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • Koreans get taste of nursing 'Aussie style'

    Eighteen second-year nursing students from Korea's Ulsan College have arrived in Rockhampton, where they will spend 3 weeks on a cultural and educational visit.

    The visitors will get a chance to learn about Australian nursing practices by shadowing nurses at Rockhampton hospitals, as they go about their duties on the wards.

    Electrical engineering student Jonathon Munro is powering into a new phase of his career thanks to CQUniversity's Co-op program, which means he has already experienced 2 paid work placements before completing his degree.

    And one of these work placements - with Queensland Government Project Services - has led to a job in the Project Services Townsville office.

    Rockhampton audiences will be able to enjoy a production of the popular Broadway musical Sweet Charity at the Pilbeam Theatre in October.

    Professional director Katie Kermond was in the city during early June to select cast members, drawn from Bachelor of Performing Arts degree students at CQU.

    They will be part of the Noosa Longweekend 'Major Minors' program from July 7-11.

    Congratulations to long-time CQU Performing Arts industry mentor Wayne Scott Kermond, currently performing as Benny Southstreet in Guys and Dolls in Melbourne.

    Wayne received the Brian Stacey Male Musical Performer of the Year Mo Award on Wednesday night (June 18), for his own produced, directed and choreographed show Candy Man, in which he plays the lead role.
