Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    A group of nursing students from Nagasaki's Kwassui University managed to pack in a lot during their recent visit arranged by the English Language Centre at CQUniversity Rockhampton.

    As well as polishing their English skills, the students were able to attend nursing lectures and interact with CQUniversity's nursing students and academics.

  • Matt to use national physics labs for corrosion research

    Congratulations to CQUniversity honours researcher Matt Thompson who has a $5000 scholarship* to ensure access to national physics laboratories, furthering his understanding of the corrosion of mild steel in heat exchanger tubes in the digestion phase of alumina production.

    The Australian Institute of Nuclear Science and Engineering (AINSE) stipend enables him to access equipment at the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO) and other facilities supported by AINSE.

  • Fledgling engineer Ben prefers the 'big toys' on large industrial sites

    Final-year 'Co-op' engineering student Ben Dinsdale and about 50 of his counterparts recently gave presentations on their latest industry placements, for which they have been based at work sites across Australia.

    One lucky power engineering student - Alex Guinane - even managed to score a placement at the ABB power and automation technology group site in Zurich, Switzerland.

  • Rocky's rail expertise attracts delegation from international company

    CQUniversity Rockhampton recently hosted a delegation of business partners from Faiveley Transport, a multinational supplier of rail products and technologies with representation in 26 countries.

    The Faiveley visitors met with our Centre for Railway Engineering to discuss current research collaborations and also took the opportunity to meet representatives of two companies based at Rockhampton campus - Rail Innovation Australia (RIA) and Insyte Solution Pty Ltd.

    Around 90 Year 11 students from Rockhampton, North Rockhampton and Glenmore state high schools and Heights College recently had the chance to 'Meet the Scientists' by mingling with postgraduate researchers at CQUniversity.

    Students learnt how to use the scientific method to research, design and conduct scientifically valid experiments.
