Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    Premier Hon Peter Beattie will next week (Aug 31, 1pm) launch the CQU Press book 'Showing Off: Queensland at World Exhibitions 1862 to 1988'.

    The launch of the book, by Judith McKay, will take place at Parliament House.

    A diverse group is gathering at CQU Rockhampton (Bldg 3) on Friday to discuss freshening of communities with renowned social entrepreneur and author Peter Kenyon.

    Over the past decade, Mr Kenyon has worked with more than 600 communities throughout Australia and overseas, to facilitate fresh and creative ways to stimulate community and economic revival.

    New Vice-Chancellor Professor John Rickard spent two days in Mackay last week, meeting staff members and local community leaders.

    Professor Rickard addressed Mackay staff during an afternoon tea, at which he talked about his experiences and future vision for CQU.

    It seems that Mackay audiences are more than happy to be footloose and fancy free as CQU's Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music production of the musical 'Footloose' opened last Thursday.

    CQU PhD student Flavio Coelho is nominated for the Australian Institute of Management (Gladstone region) Management Business Excellence Awards, due to be decided in October.

    His nomination is based on his recent research projects with major Gladstone industries, commercial organisations and community groups.

    CQU Adjunct Professor Paul Rodan, from CQU Melbourne, has published an article on the demise of former Monash University Vice-Chancellor David Robinson.

    Professor Rodan, who is Head Academic Programs at Melbourne, publishes the article in the Australian Universities Review (he is also on the AUR editorial board).
