Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • Students encouraged to 'stress less' at Uni

    Students are being encouraged to take part in Stress Less Week during their final weeks of term at CQU.

    CQU will reinforce the Stress Less Week message with free campus activities in Bundaberg (Monday, September 25), Mackay (Tuesday, September 26), Gladstone (Thursday, September 28) and Rockhampton (October 2-3).

  • CQU strong performer at international conference

    Three CQU researchers were recognised for quality research at the 7th International CINet (Continuous Innovation Network) Conference in Lucca, Italy, last week.

    Dr Claudine Soosay and Professor Paul Hyland from the Faculty of Business & Informatics presented their paper entitled “A Case Study on Knowledge Transfer as an Integrative Approach to Competitive Advantage” and Karen Becker, Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Education, presented her paper entitled “Unlearning: a people development issue for sustainable change and innovation”.

  • Mackay resident awarded CQU and Main Roads Engineering Scholarship

    The Department of Main Roads launched a $7000 scholarship with Central Queensland University in April to attract more students to study civil engineering.

    Mackay resident Paula Clark was recently awarded the lucrative scholarship.

  • Patients give CQU nursing students the thumbs up

    Patients undergoing treatment at the Sunshine Coast Private Hospital in Maroochydore have praised the professionalism and bed-side manner of CQU’s student nurses.

    This positive feedback was provided to CQU by the hospital’s Quality Manager who had coordinated a survey of patients’ experiences as part of the hospital’s quality assurance processes.

    CQU Bundaberg third-year nursing student James Ukena won first prize worth $1000 for his essay submitted to Queensland Cancer Fund's prestigious Alf Kretschmar Award.

  • CQU performing arts graduate cast in 'Cats'

    CQU Rockhampton performing arts graduate Jessica Havens has been cast in Ignations Theatre Company's (Brisbane) production of 'Cats', set to run in February and March next year.

    Ignations is the first Brisbane company and only the 3rd in Australia to get permission to do the famous show.

  • Politician and leading academics to gain honorary awards at graduations

    Public Works and Housing Minister Robert Schwarten (pictured above) and long-serving CQU staff members Errol Payne and Lesley Warner will be recognised with honorary awards during graduation ceremonies in Rockhampton on Saturday, September 23.

    A total of 200 graduates will attend the morning (10am) and afternoon (2pm) ceremonies at the Rockhampton Baptist Tabernacle in Norman Road.
