Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • AUQA audit draws to a close

    The AUQA audit panel has now finalised its on-campus interviews which encompassed off-shore sites Hong Kong, Shanghai and Singapore, the Fiji, Sydney and Melbourne international campuses, and Mackay and Rockhampton regional campuses.

    As part of its own quality monitoring and improvement process, AUQA seeks feedback from staff, students and stakeholders interviewed during the audit process.

    A photographic exhibition inspired by an artist’s emotional and spiritual journey will be held at the Walter Reid Cultural Centre in Rockhampton from December 8 to 15.

    'Worship in Asian Folklores' is the work of Stephen Lin, a migration agent and solicitor who is a native of Wuhan on Central China's Yangtze River, but now resides in Rockhampton.

  • Fruit testing technology to be taken into the fields

    A Central Queensland University researcher is planning on taking fruit quality testing technology, previously restricted to large packing houses, into the fields.

    Doctor of Philosophy student Christo Liebenberg is developing a field portable Near Infrared Spectrometer (NIRS) which he hopes will be a relatively low-cost handheld instrument to be used by fruit producers or agronomists wanting to experiment with different practices to improve fruit quality before harvesting.

    White Ribbon Day was created by a handful of Canadian men in 1991 on the second anniversary of one man's massacre of 14 women in Montreal.

    Informatics & Communication Dean Associate Professor Kevin Tickle presented IC-Assist and Peer Assist students with Certificates of Appreciation at a lunch on Tuesday.

    Students Brendan Dodd, Irene Ferguson, Andrew Binnie, Clinton Hayes, Dan White and Brad Hansen were all recognised for assisting first-year students with the benefit of their experience beyond the call of duty.

    “We were very happy with the number of people who approached us over the three day period,” said Phillip.

    The web site aims to entice new and continuing students into the ever-changing and exciting world of multimedia by providing a focus on all aspects of digital content design and development, including web design and development, digital movie-making, animation, java programming and digital audio technologies.
