Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • Gladstone community cheers graduates in evening ceremony

    Fifty-nine graduates processed up Gladstone's main street accompanied by 4 bagpipers and the cheers of their local community prior to CQU's graduation ceremony last Thursday evening.

    Held at the Gladstone Entertainment Centre, it was the first evening ceremony held by the campus.

  • CQ region students can mingle with movie makers

    Students enrolled in CQU's Bachelor of Digital Innovation (BDI) have the chance to mingle with film industry professionals, thanks to initiatives by one of their lecturers, Dr Steve Pace.

    Dr Pace has earlier this year hosted a seminar by Bruce Carter from Animal Logic (the creators responsible for creations such as 'Happy Feet', 'David Tench Tonight', 'The Matrix' and 'Moulin Rouge').

  • Select group of managers to gain shiftwork insights

    A select group of CQ region managers will be able to benefit from the fact Yeppoon is hosting a major symposium on 'Shiftwork and Working Time' in August this year.

    While the symposium is for academics, 2 special workshops have been arranged for regional managers.

  • Rocky audiences get to see premiere dance works

    Rockhampton audiences will be treated to 3 premiere works, presented by Performing Arts students and (in the case of 2) choreographed by visiting industry professionals.

    The 3 works will be presented at CQU Rockhampton's Bencke Studio (building 4) from 7.

  • CQU offers Master of Water Resources Management

    CQU is one of 5 universities offering a Master of Water Resources Management program, thanks to its membership of the International Centre of Excellence in Water Resources Management (ICE WaRM).

    An Australian Government initiative, ICE WaRM was established in 2004 to provide a national focus and international gateway to Australia's leading education, training and research expertise in water resources management.

    CQU nursing student Andrea O'Brien has come a long way - both geographically and in terms of life changes - since leaving Columneetza Senior Secondary school in Canada as a teenager.

    Now 30 (and proud of it), Andrea is halfway through a nursing degree with CQU and looking forward to fresh opportunities when she becomes a registered nurse.
