Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • CQU economists help design 'biodiversity auction'

    CQU economists Dr Jill Windle (Centre for Environmental Management) and Associate Professor John Rolfe (Faculty of Business and Informatics) have helped design a biodiversity auction which marks a new approach to land management.

    The new scheme - the Biodiversity Tender (a single round auction) was developed in partnership with CQU, the Fitzroy Basin Association (FBA) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

    The program was launched with commencement of its annual water quality and mangrove monitoring programs.

    Central Queensland University Council has resolved to restructure its relationship with its major commercial partner, C_Management Services, to secure the University's long-term financial future and enhance its ability to invest in teaching and learning, research and community engagement activities.

    CQU Council will forward its recommendation and detailed documentation to the Queensland Education Minister for further consideration, advice and any required approval.

  • More quality maternity care needed for Queensland says midwives

    Rockhampton -- Midwives, community health professionals and national and state politicians convened Thursday and Friday (6 & 7 July) in Rockhampton for a state-wide conference, sponsored by Central Queensland University and others, on midwifery issues related to the quality of maternity services in Queensland, especially in Central Queensland and the rural and remote regions further west.

    Queensland Minster for Health Stephen Robertson, Shadow Minister for Health Julia Gillard and more than 125 midwives, community health care experts, researchers and health advocates came together at a time when the state is experiencing increased demand for access to quality maternity services, especially in regional and rural locations.

    Central Queensland University was pleased to host and provide scholarships for the inaugural 2006 SunWater and Stanwell Winter Music School, held this week in Rockhampton.

    Open to about 200 high school students from all over Queensland, the Winter Music School is a week-long event of intense musical training for high school students conducted by outstanding tutors from around the country under the direction of The Southern Cross Soloists, the Brisbane-based chamber music ensemble.
