Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    This follows approval of a revised Strategic Plan for 2007-2011 and the 2007 Annual Operational Plan (both approved by the CQU Council in December 2006).

    Parents of multiple-birth children will descend on the campus from all over Queensland for a long weekend of fun, learning and support from others who have ‘been there, done that'.

  • Tourism body offers free training for students

    Students interested in opportunities for part-time or casual employment in the tourism and hospitality industries can apply for a free 9-day training seminar offered by the Queensland Tourism Industry Council.

    The seminars are being offered via the CQ TAFE Rockhampton (June 12-22) and CQ TAFE Gladstone (June 18-29) and are being promoted by CQU's Careers and Employment Service Coodinator Troy Dobinson.

  • CQU hosts Going Home ceremony for international students

    CQU Rockhampton recently (Thursday, May 31) conducted a Going Home ceremony for 38 international students.

    The ceremony catered for 22 full-degree students and 16 study abroad and exchange students who are completing their studies with CQU at the end of Term 1.

    In the early morning hours when most of us were asleep, dedicated CQU Sydney Graduate Campus students volunteered their time to assist with the ANZAC dawn service held at Martin Place, Sydney.

    Sydney Graduate Campus students Surendra Sharma, Parikshit Ujwal, Jayvardhan Jugtawat, Gajendra Singh, Parmeet Gill and Natalia Tayer volunteered under the guidance of Chris Perrin, NSW State Secretary of RSL and Bob Betty, RSL Administrator.

  • Queen's Guide explores forensics with CQU

    It wasn't a dream of first-year Biomedical Science student, Felomina Guy, to achieve the Queen's Guide Award in her guiding career, however her dedication to Guide training over the past 9 years has enabled her to achieve this prize - the first Bundaberg guide in 20 years to do so.

    "My special interest area was community service - I worked with disabled bowlers and assisted with a PCYC halloween fun day - it was fun to do," said Miss Guy.
