Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • 'Buy Local' Scholarship winner graduates

    The Action Capricorn Buy Local committee identified Julie Holbeck's potential based on her high school results and offered her a scholarship package worth more than $5000 to encourage her to continue studying in her home city of Rockhampton.

    Now Julie has paid back the committee's confidence by graduating from CQU (this Saturday, March 11) with Bachelor of Accounting and Bachelor of Business Information Systems degrees, both with Distinction.

    Canadian students (pictured top from left) Brian White, Panayiota (Yiota) Tsentouros and Tyler Meakin have followed the sun to CQU Rockhampton to turn their undergraduate degrees into postgraduate teaching qualifications.

    Checking the website for Canteach Educational Consultants, they found the costs of moving to Rockhampton for an entire academic year comparable with those of moving elsewhere in Canada or the United States.

    Central Queensland University has announced its support of an upcoming youth conference, subsidising the costs of tickets and transportation that will help bring an estimated 800 high school students from all over the region to the Rockhampton Step to the Future Youth Forum on March 10 at the Pilbeam Theatre.

    CQU’s Faculty of Sciences, Engineering & Health will trial a new collaborative venture when about 20 cadets employed by BMA are enrolled into mining-focused engineering programs at the commencement of the 2006 academic year.

    The Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music (CQCM) has recently been awarded a grant of $34,000 from the ABC to help stage the CQCM Jazz Tour, after a successful application through the ABC’s regional production fund by CQU Adjunct Professor Ross Quinn.

    “The $34,000 grant will be added to the existing funds for the tour and enable us to secure a headline performer,” said Professor Jim Mienczakowski, Director of the CQCM.
