Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    The Cooperative Research Centre for Integrated Engineering Asset Management (CIEAM), of which CQU is a member, has organised its research program around four technical thematic areas and a fifth to address the human resources area.

    One of its key focus areas is the sustainability of major infrastructure assets such as defence systems, power generation/distribution, water and transportation systems.

    CQCM sub-dean Judith Brown said performers had lots of challenges getting to know the old ‘Aussie’ slang that almost died out a few decades ago.

    World-renowned gendered violence researcher and clinical psychologist Mary Koss is discussing her work at Central Queensland University Mackay this afternoon.

    University of Arizona Professor Koss’s major areas of research include substance abuse, violence among American Indians, sexual assault surveillance and violence prevention program evaluation.

    New 10 000 Steps Project Officer (Implementation Manager) Anetta Hinchliffe spent 12 months working as a personal trainer before joining the community-based program.

    She has taken over the role from Glenn Austin, who is now working for Queensland Health in the position of Senior Health Promotion Officer Physical Activity.

  • Visitors to help Rocky people taste Thai culture

    About 20 Thai high school students will spend late April and early May in Rockhampton, learning English while encouraging cultural exchange opportunities.

    The Universal Cultural Exchange (UCE) Foundation of Thailand group will be hosted by Central Queensland University Language Centre, local Homestay families, the Cathedral College and St Anthony\'s Primary School.

    New CQU international students from the USA, Fiji, India, Hungary, Germany and Norway were given a warm welcome reception by the Rotary Club of North Rockhampton at an international dinner held recently.

    The dinner at CQU Rockhampton's Capricorn Lounge gave the students a chance to mingle with the Rotary members.

  • CQU Library wins waste saver category

    CQU Library has won the Institutional Recycling category at the inaugural Central Queensland Local Government Association's (CQLGA) Community Waste Savers Awards.

    These awards, announced last weekend, were sponsored by Stanwell Corporation, Publishers National Environment Bureau and the Environmental Protection Authority, and were supported by ABC Capricornia.
