Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • CQU again ahead of national median for graduate starting salaries

    CQU is again ahead of the national median for graduate starting salaries, according to Graduate Careers Australia's newly updated annual report on the earnings of recent university graduates (released this week).

    The national median annual starting salary for bachelor degree graduates* commencing full-time work in 2004 was $38,000.

    Queensland Cabinet Ministers and female MPs are expected at the Australian launch of CQU Press' latest publication, 'From Suffragists to Legislators: Queensland Women in State and Federal Parliaments', written by John McCulloch.

    Queensland Governor Quentin Bryce AC will launch the two-volume set from 1pm on Thursday, August 25, in the Legislative Council Chamber of Parliament House in Brisbane.

  • Get involved with 'Active Parks' program

    Rockhampton residents will soon be able to access free physical activity opportunities under the Rocky Active Parks (RAP) Strategy, endorsed by CQU's 10 000 Steps Office.

    Scheduled to launch in early September, the strategy will deliver a six-week program of regular free activities in a number of Rockhampton parks.

  • NZ grant indicates respect for preventative health

    A major New Zealand funding body has recognised the value of lifestyle surveys in health research, alongside the traditional focus on ‘bench science’ and medical treatments.

    CQU's Professor Kerry Mummery has received funding from the Royal Society of New Zealand to develop an international collaboration with Auckland University of Technology Professor Greg Kolt in the study of the determinants of physical activity in the New Zealand and Australian populations.

    A Central Queensland University MBA student from Cameroon, Central Africa, has been selected as the 2005 Face of the Fair.

    Sylvia Forsung will welcome the thousands of expected visitors to the Central Queensland Multicultural Fair and CQU Rockhampton Open Day on Sunday August 14 at CQU’s Rockhampton campus.
