Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • CQU Gladstone appoints new researcher

    Central Queensland University Gladstone recently welcomed Shamsul Akan to the research team located at the Process Engineering and Light Metals Centre.

    Over the next two years, Mr Akan will undertake research in the preliminary stages of mineral carbonation - the capture of carbon dioxide in naturally occurring minerals.

    A group of Year 10 students designed and constructed web pages as one of the final tasks completed at this year’s Siemens Science Experience.

    Web pages were built from still digital images and vision collected during the three-day event hosted by Central Queensland University.

    ITD is nearing the finalisation of a project to migrate all CQU email accounts to a new email system.

    The new system will provide an advanced web-based interface for roaming users, as well as an ordered Global Address List, for ease of finding staff details.

  • QMAG gets MAGical results from CQU

    Queensland Magnesia has revamped a series of company training modules following consultations with Central Queensland University multimedia student, Thomas Duggan.

    Duggan, working in collaboration with QMAG’s Safety Services Coordinator Rob Wallace, has developed a series of interactive training presentations on CD ROM that will aide staff in learning QMAG’s Health and Safety procedures and practices.

  • High school students leap into science

    Close to 90 students from Central Queensland got a taste of science, engineering and technology at the CQU Siemens Science Experience this week in Rockhampton and Mackay.

    It was the first time the program had been staged in Mackay, attracting 34 students from Ayr, Capella, Mackay, Proserpine and Sarina.

  • CQU hosts Relay for Life-student and staff teams welcome

    The Central Queensland leg of the world's most successful fundraising event - Relay for Life - will be held at CQU's athletics track on May 31-June 1 this year.

    The Queensland Cancer Fund event involves teams of 10-15 people passing a baton around a running track for 18 hours, between 4pm one day and 10am the next.

    CQU Mackay staff briefly mistook Buildings Officer Steve Oberg for The Crocodile Hunter when he recently leapt into a campus pond armed with a rake.

    Campus ‘Thorpedo’ Oberg donned a two-toned wetsuit, matching sneakers and an Akubra hat while clearing the murky pond of leaf litter as part of his annual ‘clean-up’.
