Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    Representatives of city and shire councils and commercial firms have joined university academics to witness a seminar about 'on-site wastewater treatment and stormwater quality' at CQU Rockhampton.

    The seminar by Dr Ashantha Goonetillek, Centre for Built Environment and Engineering Research (Faculty of Built Environment and Engineering), QUT Brisbane, was hosted by CQU Plant Sciences Group.

    Iran's Assistant Professor Fatemeh Rakhshani (pictured right with CQU's Dr Sansnee Jirojwong) is nearing the end of a six-month sabbatical research visit to Central Queensland University Rockhampton.

    CQU School of Nursing and Health Studies staff have been providing input for the visitor's World Health Organisation research aimed at devising training for malaria health educators.

    The Royal College of Nursing, the nation's leading professional organisation represents nurses from all areas of practice throughout Australia, and invites universities to nominate high achievers in their final year.

    Direct Edge, a corporate development unit of Central Queensland University, has announced a new partnership with New South Wales State Procurement in collaboration with Queensland Purchasing.

    Direct Edge from next month will be providing New South Wales State Procurement with testing for Certification of government purchasing and supply employees.

    The State Opposition's policy on domestic violence is about 15 years too late, a leading domestic and family violence analyst said recently.

    Queensland Centre for Domestic and Family Violence Research Director Heather Nancarrow said legislation introduced in 1989 allowed police to take action, even where the victim was reluctant to pursue legal intervention.

    Finding the right person for the job may be made easier for businesses with the use of a pre-employment test being developed at Central Queensland University in Rockhampton.

    Associate Professor Tony Ward and Bruce Acutt of the Faculty of Business and Law have been developing the Intrinsic Personal Characteristics (IPC) test which identifies applicants for customer service positions by providing an indication of expected job performance.

    CQU Professor Elizabeth Taylor, Dean of the James Goldston Faculty of Engineering and Physical Systems, is celebrating being recognised as an Officer in the Order of Australia (AO).

    Professor Taylor said she was honoured and overwhelmed to receive the award, which was given for service to engineering education through the design and implementation of innovative academic programs, to professional associations, and to enhancing the status of women in the profession and promoting it as a career option.
