Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • 'Best paper' on community wellbeing a partnership project

    A best paper award for a project on 'Measuring Community Wellbeing: A Central Queensland Case Study' was based on a project partnership between CQU and a State Government department.

    The paper won the Best Conference Paper Award at the Australia and New Zealand Regional Science Association International (ANZRSAI) Inc conference held in New Zealand during September.

  • Lecturer presents update on cyber crime

    School of Business & Informatics law lecturer Eric Holm presented a paper at the Emerge 2007 Conference in Brisbane on behalf of Central Queensland University.

    Mr Holm addressed leading academics, industry leaders and practitioners on issues regarding cyber crime and its impact upon human capital.

  • High School Students Jammin' to become professional musicians

    This week, 22 high school students from the Mackay region are taking part in Jammin' a program at the Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music (CQCM) that gives school kids a chance to observe and participate in a range of classes as though they were professional music students at CQCM.

    Running through until Friday, the students will have a chance to participate in workshops, academic lectures and rehearsals -  much of what a regular CQCM student can expect in studying any of the 3 music courses available at the Conservatorium.

  • Special awards and research a feature of Rockhampton graduation

    Special awards and research degrees were a feature of CQU's Rockhampton Graduation Ceremony, held on Monday evening, September 24, at the Baptist Tabernacle in Norman Road.

    A record 18 research students graduated from Masters and doctoral degrees, 3 honorary degrees were conferred and an Emeritus Professor was appointed.

  • Students passed and presented for Futures

    Students completing their course on e-Learning Futures have been presented with awards in conjunction with a residential school at CQU Rockhampton.

    e-Learning Futures is a core course within the Graduate Diploma in Learning and Teaching (GDLT) that focuses on futures, problem solving and the use of e-learning technologies, both to provide student learning opportunities and to integrate the technology into the student outputs.

  • Jimbo third time 'plucky' to become teacher

    Jim 'Jimbo' Picton started down the road to becoming a teacher twice earlier in his career, only to change his mind and join the Airforce and then the Army.

    More recently, however, he has found the inner resolve to achieve his goal and attributes his success to the format of CQU's Graduate Diploma in Learning and Teaching.
