Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    Born and raised in Monto, Tracey attended the Monto State High School, before pursuing a Bachelor of Nursing degree at CQU in Rockhampton.

    There's a busy and exciting time ahead for CQCM Lecturer in Jazz Studies Derrin Kerr.

    Following his involvement in the 10-day CQCM/ABC Jazz Tour, which kicks off on Saturday June 10 at venues around the state, Derrin will be flying to the University of Louisville Kentucky in the USA to attend the International Association of Schools - Jazz Conference (IASJ).

  • Plant Sciences supports waste water facility open day

    CQU Plant Sciences staff and students spent Saturday May 27 at the Open Day for the newly commissioned and dedicated Livingstone Shire Council waste water treatment plant.

    Professor David Midmore said it was a relevant occasion to engage visitors to the plant about the range of technologies available to treat waste water, whether through rural on-site treatment or through sewage treatment plants.

    The Mayor and President of Ahmedahad, one of India's major cities, were impressed during a recent informal visit to CQU Sydney's postgraduate campus (May 12).

    That is according to Indian student Nachiket Joshi (a Sydney Campus Student Association commitee member), whose political party connections came in handy when arranging the visit.

    The latest batch of visitors includes Astrid Heidemann Lassen from Denmark (radical business innovation), Judith Nahuis from The Netherlands (new product development) and Mario Ferrer from Colombia (supply chain management).

    Koala researcher Stephanie Januchowski not only has academic support - a band of volunteers has been selling koala-themed chocolates and \'orphan\' koala soft toys to help fund her stipend.

    The Central Queensland Koala Volunteers have pledged $5000 a year for 3 years to support Central Queensland University\'s stipend input of $13,000 a year for 3 years.

  • CQU Gladstone to host Winter Arts School

    The week-long event will be a celebration of the arts in education and is a combined effort between Education Queensland, local schools and Central Queensland University.

  • Grant to move music documentary forward

    Rockhampton music researcher and now film writer/producer Jim Douglas has been given a $4650 grant to start filming a short documentary film based on local independent music identity Cameron Borg.

    Mr Douglas was successful in his application for funding from the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF), administered through the Rockhampton City Council, to begin filming the project with the working title, ‘A Piss in the Ocean: Cameron Borg, the Last Punk Rocker?’.
