Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • Almost $2 million for education pathways welcomed

    CQUniversity has welcomed the announcement of almost $2 million in Federal Government funding for the establishment of Place-Based Education Pathways at the Gladstone and Mackay campuses. 

    The campus grants of $991,000 each were provided from the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations Diversity and Structural Adjustment Fund.

  • Mackay's science experience offers hands-on fun

    Mackay's next Siemens Science Experience in January (20-22) will include plenty of hands-on fun for the participants, who are students entering Year 10.

    Some of the sessions are entitled 'Getting plastered'; 'Consciousness and perception: illusions that fool us'; 'Engineering - building out'; and 'The forensic study of white powders'.

    Seven first-year students seeking to enrol at CQUniversity Mackay in 2009 will once again benefit from the partnership between Hail Creek Mine and CQUniversity. 

    The Hail Creek Mine CQUniversity Scholarship Program was established in 2007 to help counter the skills shortage in the Mackay area, encouraging local people to undertake study in Mackay to increase and retain the number of skilled people in the region.

  • 'Learning behind bars' research awarded

    CQUniversity Rockhampton staff members Vicki Pascoe and Kylie Radel have been recognised for their research study of Education Journeys from Australian Indigenous Students in Custody.

    Their academic paper entitled 'What are Nice Guys Like them doing in a Place Like that?' has been selected as the winner of an  International Award for Excellence in the area of literacy and education.
