Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    University Medallist April Morton reportedly plans to take up a PhD scholarship at the University of Sydney.

    Ms Morton, from Yeppoon, graduated at CQU's February ceremony with a Bachelor of Biomedical Science with 1st Class Honours.

  • Lecturer appointed to international ergonomics project

    CQU Occupational Health and Safety lecturer Yvonne Toft's experience and knowledge in the area of ergonomics have led to her gaining a position in a committee of the most influential international body in that discipline area.

    Ms Toft has accepted an invitation to join the International Ergonomics Association's (IEA) Ergonomics Quality In Design (EQUID) program.

  • Domestic Violence Research Centre secures $50,000 grant

    The Queensland Centre for Domestic and Family Violence Research Centre (CDFVR) based at CQU Mackay has received a $50,000 grant funded by the State Government’s Office for Women.

    CDFVR sought the grant to develop a comprehensive, accredited training package aimed at improving effectiveness and coordination of efforts to address violence against women.

    Peter Vella, a first-year student studying the Bachelor Information Technology degree at CQU Mackay, was awarded the Professor John D.

    Fiction writer and performance poet Dr Lynda Hawryluk has joined Central Queensland University's academic staff as lecturer in the disciplines of literature and creative writing.

    Her writing is due to be part of a book called 'Collected Thoughts of Time'.

    BPA coordinator Dr Emma Killion said the eight new male students came from drama and dance backgrounds and were a welcome addition since most of the 58 students in the program were female.
