Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    CQU Head of Nursing & Health Studies Dr Lorna Moxham has recently returned after representing Australian nurses on behalf of DEST (Department of Education, Science and Training) during a major event in Manila in The Philippines.

    Dr Moxham was a speaker for the 47th annual convention of the Association of Deans of Philippine Colleges of Nursing (ADPCN).

    CQU Rockhampton's Anetta Hinchliffe was awarded the Australian Sports Medicine Federation Fellow Award for the Journal of Science and Medicine in Sport Best Poster Presentation during the recent Sports Medicine Australia Conference in Fiji.

    Ms Hinchliffe's poster was entitled 'Applying usability testing techniques to improve an interactive physical activity website: The case of 10,000 Steps'.

  • Nursing graduate invents hospital safety device

    A CQU School of Nursing and Health Studies graduate, local Emergency Registered Nurse and inventor, Glen Riverstone, has invented a much-needed device aimed at making the opening of glass ampoules safe.

    The `SNAPIT' device, which Mr Riverstone has patented, fits over the tops of ampoules and replaces the use of fingers breaking the tops.

  • German civil engineer working with Plant Sciences

    Ms Pischke, a Masters candidate in the field of Tropical Water Resource Management at the University of Lueneburg, is currently focusing on subsurface drip irrigation.
